Argynnis paphia - Silver Washed Fritillary

This large and graceful Fritillary has presented itself to me on many occasions now, from the forested areas of Southern England, to France, and beyond. 

The male, top left, has large black brands of scent scales along the veins of it's forewings, compared with the female below.

The silvery splashed underside yields it's English name.

The verdigris burnished valezina form is seen in the below the other female butterfly image.
