Carterocephalus palaemon - Chequered Skipper
In Scotland, this species is associated with bluebell time, both appearing in mid to late May, and complimenting each other in a manner only nature's palette can. It is small, hard to follow in flight, and rather restless and difficult to obtain a good butterfly photograph of in my experience.
Last year I saw it in the Italian Alps in July, but both of the above were taken in Scotland.
