This commanding and iconic species  was finally seen in Southern Italy in central Puglia during September 2019 where it was flying on waste ground with it's favoured bushes. Despite being my first encounter it was easy enough to identify even whilst driving, and luckily for me I was able to pull in and follow it well enough to  obtain a butterfly photograph
