Erebia aethiops - Scotch Argus
All these butterfly photographs were taken in one of the small residual colonies in Northern England.
Once again it has chequered fringes, but is smaller than the previous two species. I have not yet knowingly encountered it in Europe, but the site of these is only a short distance from home, and makes a welcome annual pilgrimage in late July.
The male images are on the left side, the female on the right.
