This has often been the most abundant erebia at the middle to higher elevation Alpine regions I have visited, usually in early July. It is also to be seen in the Vercours of France, where the first image below was taken. It is very variable, though usually unmistakable with it's Almond shaped eye spots, and is rather attractive in a butterfly photograph.
