Erebia manto - Yellow Spotted Ringlet

Although it is suggested to be a very common Alpine butterfly, I have seen it only twice, and not the yellowish spotted underside form, but the decidedly reddish one. Even in  one place, the variation was wide, and I thought at least one of these was eriphyle but accept manto as the true identity. A restless and tricky butterfly on the day I saw it in the Haute Savoie.

The second encounter was in the Pyrenees in 2016, see below, the form constans, very dark and bereft of most markings

Below is the form constans found in the Midi Pyrenees. Some were virtually bereft of all markings, though some had decidedly whitish bloom of scales on the underside hindwing
