When I finally met this species, the habitat was mostly wooded, with the occasional small clearing of long wet grasses and flowers. I thought one such area was just too tempting to pass by, and finally I saw my Large Chequered Skippers, a couple of them, restless and indeed bouncing as if on elastic in flight. Quite extraordinary! I walked away with a poor record butterfly photo, but I knew I had one more chance the next morning.

This duly came along and I headed to the same patch early. The sun took a while to bathe the clearing, and not much flew. With time running out, and welling disappointment I finally saw something out of the corner of my eye... morpheus, and nectaring at that. A happy hour was spent, and the final butterfly photo results are here.
