I have seen this only twice, in the Haute-Savoie and the Stelvio region of Italy, where it entertained me for ages, being absolutely determined to avoid close approach, possibly the least amenable butterfly I have ever achieved a butterfly image of.. it frequently returned to the same place, but was spooked by any approach within three metres or so. 

The upperside hindwing discal band is visible, although faint
