Muschampia tessellum - Tessellated Skipper

Muschampia-tessellum-tessellated-skipper | PTKbutterflies

This one is huge for a Skipper, the same size or more as the Yellow Banded Skipper, but with the submarginal row of white spots posessed by the Spialia genus. Note the three oblong spots in S5,6 & 7 on the apical section of the forewing upperside. The underside is evidently pale olive grey.

I was delighted to encounter this as the first new species for me in my trip to Turkey, along the shore line pastures in the Lake District region. It behaved well for my butterfly photos.
