This iconic species took some time for me to make my acquaintance. I first saw them floating up and down a cliff face in the Pyrenees, but have since come across them in the Haute-Savoie, the Vercors in France and in the Italian Alps. They are stunning creatures, and I am gradually building up better butterfly photographs.
