Typical of all Pyrgus skippers, the Grizzled Skipper forewing has the small white spots in spaces S4 and S5 displaced towards the margin, to compare with another similar genus, Spialia with similar other attributes. The small white spots on the hindwing upperside submargin also help differentiate from other Pyrgus Skippers. The ground colour is generally dark with highly contrasting white spots but abberations occur with much more white. 

They are widespread and frequently encountered in Europe.

The butterfly above was photographed in Southern England, where it is a Spring species, the underside photo was taken in France. The two lower photos were also from Southern England's Downlands.
