Hipparchia syriaca - Eastern Rock Grayling

I had great good fortune with this one, the only one I saw on a trip to the Peloponesse. In a steep sided rocky canyon it chose to join me, giving a couple of breathtaking fly-pasts first - the upper side was a dark greyish brown with the upperside bands showing off a bluish tinge as it flew.
It then alighted, quite happily only a couple of feet away, I only had to stoop to conquer! One of those butterfly photo moments which are quite unforgettable.
