This species is a UK success story, and it is only about 15 years ago they were never to be seen in my area. Then they arrived and grace my garden at home every year. Indeed all the butterfly images here, come from my home, apart from the bottom right two images which show the more tawny continental version.

The male of the species has a very prominent sex brand.
